Egypt’s FM, Jordanian counterpart discuss regional developments in phone call

CAIRO – 20 July 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Minister of International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, held a phone call with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi to discuss regional developments and strategies to de-escalate tensions and restore stability to the region.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted several areas in Jordan, affirming Egypt's full solidarity with its neighboring nation and its support for all measures taken to preserve Jordanian security, stability, and sovereignty. He further stressed Egypt's categorical rejection of any aggression that threatens the security and sovereignty of Arab states.

The two ministers discussed regional and international efforts aimed at lowering tensions and containing the expanding conflict. They emphasized the vital importance of an immediate cessation of all military actions that could widen the scope of the hostilities, the necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, and the need to intensify coordination among Arab states to safeguard regional stability and the well-being of its populations.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the ministers emphasized the importance of completing all requirements for the first phase of the US President's peace plan. They underscored the need to ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid into the Gaza Strip to alleviate Palestinian suffering, while agreeing on arrangements for the second phase, including a full Israeli withdrawal from the Strip.

The two diplomats also expressed their rejection and condemnation of ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's full support for the Jordanian custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, characterizing it as a fundamental pillar for preserving the identity of the holy city and safeguarding its historical heritage.

Concluding the call, the ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation, strengthening existing cooperation mechanisms to serve mutual interests and fulfill the aspirations of both nations. They also committed to ongoing alignment on various regional and international issues of common concern.
