CAIRO – 20 July 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud on Sunday to discuss the latest regional developments and efforts to lower tensions.
During the call, both ministers reiterated their condemnation of repeated Iranian attacks targeting several Arab states.
Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's full solidarity with Jordan and the Gulf states, emphasizing that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of state sovereignty and a serious threat to regional security and stability. He stressed the critical importance of an immediate cessation of all escalatory actions and any practices that could fuel tensions, widen the conflict, or threaten the security of Arab nations.
In the same context, the two ministers agreed on the importance of preserving freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with interna
tional law, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring the safety of international maritime transit and the unimpeded movement of ships.
They explicitly rejected any attempts to impose restrictions on passage in international waterways, citing the severe negative repercussions such actions would have on the global economy and energy security.
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on broader regional efforts aimed at stabilization. They highlighted the role of the regional quartet, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, as a vital platform for consultation, coordination, and support in containing tensions and consolidating regional security.
Concluding the call, the two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation between their countries on various issues of common interest and shared security concerns, aiming to effectively support long-term regional stability.
