CAIRO – 18 July 2026: Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on Saturday that Washington's repeated violations of a memorandum of understanding signed by the Iranian and US presidents had once again shown that the US president's signature was “worthless” and “lacked credibility.”
In a statement cited by Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Khamenei accused the United States of arrogance, unilateralism, and brutality, describing them as inseparable from the American approach.
He called Washington “the great satan,” saying it has once again revealed its "true face" through repeated breaches of its commitments under the MoU.
Khamenei condemned what he called “disregard for reason, utter untrustworthiness, and malicious intent” of the US.
Khamenei warned that as the US sought to "ignite war" while accepting "heavy costs and further disgrace," "the Iranian nation and the Axis of Resistance have unforgettable lessons" for Washington.
He added that the courage shown by Iranian fighters and residents of the country's southern region in recent days have already provided examples of those lessons.
Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since his father, former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, was killed in US-Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28.
Last week, US President Donald Trump said he believed Mojtaba Khamenei was likely dead.
