CAIRO – 17 July 2026: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that a fire at a power and water desalination plant, which broke out following an Iranian attack on Friday morning, has been extinguished.

According to a ministry statement, the attack caused significant damage to the plant's facilities, including several power generation units.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Army General Staff announced that its air defense systems are actively engaging ongoing missile and drone attacks. The military clarified that the explosions heard in several areas are the result of interception operations carried out by air defenses against hostile targets.

For its part, the Iranian Army announced it had launched attacks targeting multiple countries, including strikes on military equipment at a US base in Kuwait.

Tehran stated that the operation was in response to alleged war crimes committed by the United States and its targeting of civilians. It added that US hostilities have led to a sharp decline in regional gas and oil production, as well as a complete halt to exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
