CAIRO – 15 July 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Wednesday with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker during an official visit to Vienna.
Minister Abdelatty began the meeting by conveying greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and delivering a written message from the President to the Austrian Chancellor. He commended the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and the ongoing high-level communication between the two nations.
Abdelatty highlighted the significance of convening the first round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries. He emphasized that maintaining high-level political consultations on regional and international issues of mutual interest will provide a strong impetus to the already distinguished bilateral relations across all fields.
For his part, the Austrian Chancellor requested that his appreciation and warmest greetings be conveyed to President El-Sisi, praising Egypt's wise and balanced foreign policy in navigating various regional crises.
The Chancellor also expressed Austria's deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role and tireless diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions—particularly regarding the Iranian crisis—and to support initiatives aimed at safeguarding regional security and stability. He affirmed Austria's keenness to sustain coordination with Egypt and elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons.
During the talks, Minister Abdelatty reviewed promising opportunities for economic and trade cooperation, noting that Egypt's vast investment potential aligns well with the capabilities and interests of Austrian companies. He expressed Egypt's aspiration to attract increased Austrian investment, particularly in renewable energy and the automotive component industries.
Addressing migration, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of international burden-sharing. He called for a balanced approach that tackles the root causes of illegal migration, expressing hope to collaborate with Austria on a comprehensive framework. Such an agreement would regulate labor mobility between the two countries while simultaneously addressing irregular migration to maximize mutual benefits.
The Foreign Minister also congratulated Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2029 term. He expressed anticipation for close coordination on key issues on the Council's agenda, especially given the rapid developments in the Middle East and their direct impact on the global economy, energy security, and freedom of navigation.
In this context, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's ongoing efforts to restore regional stability. He stressed the critical need to refocus international attention on the Palestinian cause to establish the necessary conditions for implementing the first phase of the peace plan. He detailed Egypt's efforts to transition to the second phase of the agreement, emphasizing the urgent need to halt violations of the ceasefire and prevent any expansion of military control in the Gaza Strip.
The two sides concluded the meeting by exchanging views on the latest developments in Lebanon, Sudan, and Libya, underscoring the vital importance of supporting regional peace efforts to preserve the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of these nations.
