CAIRO – 15 July 2026: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the government is steadily moving forward with its plan to expand new and renewable energy projects, aimed at enhancing national energy security and reducing reliance on imported conventional fuels.
Speaking at a press conference following his inspection of local agricultural and livestock production sites, as well as the inauguration of several development projects, Madbouly emphasized that Egypt's energy situation remains stable despite ongoing global challenges and market fluctuations.
He noted that he holds weekly follow-up meetings with the Minister of Electricity to monitor the progress of renewable energy initiatives and expedite their completion. Bringing these projects online as quickly as possible, the Prime Minister pointed out, is vital to cutting fuel imports, stabilizing the national grid, and easing fiscal pressures.
Madbouly confirmed that the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is seeing significant construction milestones, highlighting the recent completion of the core catcher installation for the second reactor. He characterized the facility as one of the country's most critical strategic undertakings in the energy sector.
The government aims to begin generating electricity from the first unit of the El Dabaa plant by the end of 2028, Madbouly added, with all four nuclear reactors projected to be fully operational by 2030. Once complete, the plant will substantially diversify Egypt’s energy mix and drive its sustainable development goals.
