Trump renews threat to seize Iran's Kharg Island, vows fresh strikes tonight

CAIRO – 8 July 2026: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested again Washington could seize Kharg Island, home to much of Iran’s oil export infrastructure, further escalating tensions between the two countries.

"Maybe we'll take over Kharg Island. We may take over Kharg Island. There's not a thing they could do about it," Trump said as he spoke before talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump threatened to launch another round of strikes against Iran tonight after overnight strikes on dozens of Iranian targets, accusing Tehran of repeatedly violating the agreement between the two sides.

"We're gonna hit 'em hard tonight," Trump said. "They violate the agreement every day."
