CAIRO - 7 July 2026: The Permanent Mission of Egypt in Geneva, in cooperation with the missions of Kuwait, Indonesia, and Malaysia, successfully adopted a draft resolution entitled "Consequences of obstructing and impeding humanitarian access and threats to the safety of humanitarian workers during armed conflicts."

The resolution was adopted unanimously during the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council, within the framework of Egypt's current membership, and following a period of intensive preparation, coordination, and consultations that lasted four months.

The resolution came in response to the unprecedented escalation of armed conflicts worldwide, which has led to an increase in attacks targeting humanitarian workers and obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in need.

This exacerbates the suffering of millions of people and infringes upon their fundamental rights, including the rights to life, food, health, water, and shelter.

The resolution affirmed that protecting humanitarian workers and ensuring safe, rapid, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid are not only obligations under international law, but also essential for protecting human rights and alleviating the suffering of civilians in conflict zones.

The draft resolution garnered significant support, with 65 countries from various geographical groups, including African, Asian, European, and Latin American nations, joining as co-sponsors.

This reflects the growing international consensus on the importance of strengthening the protection of humanitarian work and personnel, and the need to address violations that impede the delivery of humanitarian aid.

This resolution comes within the framework of the role played by the Permanent Mission of Egypt in Geneva in proposing initiatives that contribute to enhancing dialogue on human rights issues and highlighting emerging challenges and dimensions.

This reflects Egypt's commitment to contributing constructively to the development and strengthening of the human rights system at the international level.
