CAIRO – 4 July 2026: The Egyptian General Authority of Meteorology (EMA) has warned of hot to very hot weather across most of the country, with rising temperatures and increased humidity levels nationwide.
The Authority indicated that high humidity levels will make the perceived temperature feel 1 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than the actual temperature in the shade.
In June, the world's oceans recorded their highest temperatures on record, surpassing the levels reached during the 2023–2024 El Niño event, which affects climate patterns around the globe.
The current average sea surface temperature stands at around 21°C across tropical and temperate oceans worldwide, up from approximately 19.6°C before industrial expansion began in 1870.
The difference may seem small at first glance, but warming the world's oceans to this extent requires an immense amount of energy. Of all the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gases from burning coal, gas, and oil, more than 90% is absorbed by the oceans.
