Dubai Ruler congratulates Egypt on reaching 2026 World Cup Round of 16

CAIRO – 4 July 2026: UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum congratulated Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the Egyptian national team's qualification for the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, after Egypt defeated Australia on penalty kicks (4-2).

 

On his official X account, Sheikh Al Maktoum posted: "Congratulations to the Egyptian people and their leadership on the Egyptian team's qualification for the Round of 16 of the World Cup."

 

He added: "The Arabs' joy today is Egyptian... a heroic performance... a fighting spirit... and an enjoyable match for the Pharaohs... All the best for all Arabs... All the joy for our Arab peoples..."

 

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated the Egyptian national football team for winning their match against Australia on penalty kicks (4-2), qualifying for the Round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time in the team's history. 

 

The two teams had drawn 1-1 during regulation and extra time before the match was decided by a penalty shootout.

 

On his official social media accounts, President Sisi said: "I congratulate the sons of Egypt, the heroes of the national football team, on this historic achievement of qualifying for the Round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time in the team's history."

 

He added: "You have proven that believing in your abilities, competing with team spirit, and determination lead to great accomplishments. All the best in the future, and Allah Willing, the journey of achievement and pride will continue."
