CAIRO – 3 July 2026: The Ministry of Health and Population announced that it has recorded 70,591,515 visits by women receiving screening and awareness services under the President's Sustainable Initiative to Support Egyptian Women's Health since its launch in July 2019.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's official spokesperson, said the total includes 23,446,016 first-time visits, 33,428,303 routine follow-up visits, and 13,717,195 occasional visits.

He urged women to undergo regular health checkups through the initiative's services, emphasizing that the early detection of breast cancer reduces the burden on both patients and the state by enabling timely access to free treatment in accordance with the latest international standards.

Abdel Ghaffar noted that 927,546 women were referred to hospitals for advanced examinations. The initiative provides its services through 3,663 health units and 102 hospitals nationwide and has also received 34,788 inquiries through its hotline, 15335.

He added that the initiative follows the latest international breast cancer treatment protocols through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population and 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, all of which provide services free of charge. These centers are also being equipped to become advanced cancer research and treatment facilities.

The initiative targets women aged 18 and above and includes screening for non-communicable diseases, including diabetes and hypertension, as well as measurements of weight, height, and body mass index (BMI). It also promotes awareness of disease risk factors, reproductive health, and family planning.

For his part, Dr. Hatem Amin, executive director of the initiative, said that 38,922 breast cancer cases have been detected, 449,571 mammograms have been performed, and 59,842 tissue samples have been collected for laboratory analysis, with confirmed cases receiving treatment free of charge.

He added that 161,334 women have also been screened through mobile units, where 64,307 mammograms were performed.

Amin emphasized the continued provision of treatment for women diagnosed with breast cancer through either the health insurance system or the state-funded healthcare system. He also noted that 30,098 medical personnel—including doctors, nurses, radiology technicians, and pathologists—have been trained to improve the quality of services.
