CAIRO – 2 July 2026: Egypt will issue a silver commemorative medal celebrating the national football team's historic qualification for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.

Gamal Hussein, Head of the Egyptian Mint Authority, said the medal will be struck in 900-grade silver and feature a distinctive design combining the symbolism of the global sporting event with Egypt's ancient cultural heritage.

The commemorative medal will be available for purchase through the authority's sales outlet starting in mid-July, he added, without disclosing its price.

The medal commemorates Egypt's best-ever World Cup campaign too far.

Egypt finished second in Group G after opening its campaign with a 1-1 draw against Belgium, securing its first-ever World Cup victory with a 3-1 win over New Zealand, and holding Iran to another 1-1 draw to book a historic place in the knockout stage of the expanded 48-team tournament.

Egypt will continue their historic World Cup campaign on Friday when they take on Australia in the Round of 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with the winners advancing to the Round of 16.
