CAIRO – 1 July 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said electricity tariffs will increase by 20% for restaurants, cafés, and other commercial establishments that choose to operate beyond the government-mandated closing hours.
Speaking at a press conference, Madbouly said the increase was agreed upon with businesses wishing to continue operating after the official closing times.
The prime minister also announced that the Automatic Pricing Committee for Petroleum Products will resume its regular meetings starting in the first quarter of the 2026/2027 fiscal year (July–September) to ensure fair pricing of petroleum products.
Madbouly said the government is securing the fuel needed to operate power plants and is continuously monitoring the situation. He added that the government has adopted several measures, including wage increases, in response to requests from the private sector.
He further noted that the government had also responded to the private sector's request regarding the solidarity contribution by introducing amendments to the Comprehensive Health Insurance Law.
