CAIRO – 30 June 2026: Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Gustave Roussy Hospital and the French Embassy in Egypt to provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care for Gazan children with cancer who have been evacuated to Egypt.
The protocol was signed by Dr. Tarek Moharram, founder and CEO of Elevate Capital, and French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier, in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Neema Abed, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), and Dr. Amal Imam, executive director of the Egyptian Red Crescent.
The initiative is the result of joint cooperation among the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, the French Embassy in Egypt, Gustave Roussy Hospital, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and the WHO to provide advanced cancer treatment for Gazan children receiving care in Egypt.
Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the strength of the longstanding relations between Egypt and France, describing the protocol as a model of international cooperation in localizing advanced medical technologies and developing specialized national expertise in line with the goals of Egypt Vision 2030.
He also expressed Egypt's appreciation for the humanitarian support provided by the French government since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis, stressing that delivering cancer treatment in accordance with international standards to affected children is a humanitarian responsibility that reflects the close partnership between the two countries.
For his part, Chevallier welcomed the partnership, saying it would provide high-quality cancer care for Gazan children through specialized medical teams from Gustave Roussy Hospital, one of the world's leading cancer treatment centers. He added that the initiative is funded by the French government.
Moharram described the partnership as an important step toward strengthening international cooperation to support patients most in need. He said it represents an integrated model of specialized healthcare that combines international expertise with local capabilities.
He added that over the past year, the hospital has increased its operational capacity and services by 45% while optimizing costs and obtaining both national and international quality accreditations.
