CAIRO – 30 June 2026: The Ministry of Interior announced the release of 1,834 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centers on the occasion of the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution.
The move reflects the ministry's commitment to implementing a modern penal policy, in which expanding the use of presidential pardons is a key component.
The Community Protection Sector released the inmates in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 269 of 2026, which grants pardons for the remainder of the sentences of eligible convicts in celebration of the anniversary.
The releases came after specialized committees within the Community Protection Sector reviewed the inmates' files to ensure they met the legal requirements and had successfully completed rehabilitation and reform programs implemented by the Ministry of Interior.
The occasion brought joy to the released inmates and their families, who welcomed them outside the correctional and rehabilitation centers. Family members expressed appreciation for the presidential pardon, which reunited them with their loved ones.
The Ministry of Interior said religious and national holidays provide an opportunity for eligible inmates to receive presidential pardons and begin a new chapter after completing rehabilitation and reform programs under the ministry's modern correctional system.
