CAIRO - 30 June 2026: Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, Head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, received Tuesday a UNESCO delegation to discuss ways to develop media sector and protect audio visual heritage. 
 
The meeting addressed prospects for cooperation between the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and UNESCO, aiming to support professional media, enhance the exchange of expertise, and benefit from the programs and initiatives implemented by the organization in the fields of communication and information.
 
It also covered enhancing cooperation efforts to preserve Egyptian audiovisual cultural heritage and highlight its value at the regional and international levels.
 
Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz affirmed that cooperation with UNESCO represents "a significant step in supporting media development efforts in Egypt,” noting that the Council places great importance on building partnerships with specialized international organizations to enhance media content. This is in addition to supporting initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting the Egyptian audiovisual heritage.
 
The UNESCO delegation was headed by Maria Gabriel, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information. For her part, Maria Gabriel stated that the organization looks forward to expanding cooperation with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation.
 
She emphasized that Egypt possesses a unique cultural and human heritage that deserves to be preserved and promoted through consolidated efforts, supporting initiatives aimed at developing the media sector and strengthening its role in serving society.
 
The meeting was held in coordination with Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO; the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Ambassador Tarek Dahroug, Egypt's Ambassador to France.
 
The meeting was also attended by media figure Essam El-Amir, Deputy Head of the Council; Heidi Mirza, Communication and Information Projects Officer at the UNESCO Cairo Office; and Robert Barois, Education Officer at the UNESCO Cairo Office.
