Digital Transformation was a main topic discussed during Egypt's Economic Summit - Hussein Talal/Egypt tODAY
CAIRO – 29 June 2026: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi affirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation with African countries in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and leveraging the opportunities offered by these technologies to support digital transformation efforts across the continent.
His remarks came during a meeting on Monday, June 29, 2026, with Rwanda's Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in digital transformation, AI and digital capacity building.
The meeting explored cooperation on developing a shared African vision for AI that is responsible, inclusive, and development-oriented.
The discussions also covered the implementation of AI-powered pilot projects in several priority sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, local languages, and government services, with the aim of delivering tangible and measurable outcomes.
The two sides also discussed establishing frameworks for cooperation among government institutions, universities, research organizations, and innovation centers in both countries.
They further explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise in the field of digital government.
The ministers agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the near future to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of communications and information technology.
Hindi highlighted Egypt's efforts to advance joint African action in AI through its participation in the African Union's AI Working Group, as well as its contributions to the working groups of the AI Council under the Smart Africa Alliance.
He expressed his aspiration to deepen cooperation with Rwanda in communications and information technology, particularly in AI, and to work jointly on expanding AI applications to support sustainable development across the African continent.
He also noted that Egypt has made significant progress in the field through the implementation of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which is built on integrated pillars aimed at expanding the use of AI applications across various sectors while developing a highly skilled workforce specialized in AI.
For her part, Ingabire reaffirmed her country's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt in communications and information technology, reflecting the close ties between the two countries.
She stressed the importance of joint collaboration in AI, digital transformation, and digital skills development.
The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen coordination in regional and international forums concerned with AI governance, contributing to the development of unified African positions on related issues.
