CAIRO – 29 June 2026: As part of the Egyptian state's efforts to build human capital and enhance quality of life, presidential health initiatives under the "100 Million Healthy Lives" umbrella continue to achieve tangible results on the ground.
Among these is the President's initiative for the early detection of eye diseases in children, "Our Children's Eyes, Our Future," which aims to protect children's vision and ensure they receive free medical care and treatment.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, emphasized that the initiative reflects the state's commitment to children's health, describing them as the nation's greatest asset and its future. He noted that undetected vision problems in their early stages can directly affect a child's academic performance, as well as their psychological and social development.
He added that the initiative is not limited to medical examinations. Rather, it provides a comprehensive healthcare system that begins with early detection and accurate diagnosis and extends to treatment and follow-up for children requiring medical intervention, helping protect them from complications resulting from delayed diagnosis.
He noted that the initiative has achieved significant results since its launch, providing medications and medical supplies to 27,156 children identified as needing treatment through specialized medical examinations.
He added that all services provided under the initiative are completely free of charge, placing no financial burden on families and reflecting the state's commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare for children. He further explained that the initiative is being implemented through cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Population and the "Sight for Kids" program, in accordance with the highest international standards for the early detection of eye diseases.
Abdel Ghaffar affirmed that the Ministry continues to implement an ambitious plan aimed at reaching the largest possible number of children across all governorates. This will contribute to the early detection and treatment of vision problems before they affect children's education or overall health.
Addressing parents, Abdel Ghaffar urged them to take advantage of the initiative's services and not to neglect regular eye examinations for their children.
"Under the slogan, 'A simple step... makes a big difference,' we emphasize that a few minutes of examination can protect a child from health problems that could affect their academic performance and future life. Therefore, we call on all families to safeguard their children's eye health and benefit from the free services provided by the state," he said.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the Ministry of Health and Population has made several communication channels available for inquiries and access to services through the hotlines 105 and 15335, in addition to the Ministry's official social media pages, where families can find information on the locations and schedules of medical campaigns.
The official spokesperson concluded by reaffirming the state's commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to every child in Egypt, based on its belief that children's health is the cornerstone of building a brighter future for generations to come.
