CAIRO - 29 June 2026: A telephone call took place Monday, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, and Jonathan Powell, British National Security Advisor, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, as well as a number of regional developments.
During the call, both sides affirmed their commitment to further enhancing Egyptian-British relations across various political, economic, and investment sectors, and commended the remarkable progress witnessed in bilateral relations recently.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of bolstering economic and trade cooperation and increasing the volume of British investments in Egypt, in order to achieve the mutual interests of both countries and support economic development efforts.
He called on British companies to intensify their investments in Egypt and explore new avenues for cooperation in various sectors.
He also discussed the importance of facilitating Egyptian exports to the British market within the framework of the partnership agreement between Egypt and the United Kingdom, which would contribute to increasing the volume of trade and maximizing the benefits offered by the agreement.
US-Iranian Memoranda of Understanding
Regarding regional developments, Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing US-Iranian talks, aiming for a final agreement that addresses the interests and concerns of all parties and contributes to strengthening regional and international security and stability.
He emphasized that diplomatic solutions remain the best way to resolve outstanding issues.
The call also addressed the latest developments in Lebanon, with Minister Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's unwavering support for the Lebanese state. He stressed the importance of respecting Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and building upon the framework agreement reached under US auspices, leading to a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the extension of Lebanese state authority over all its lands.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of refocusing international efforts on the Palestinian issue, creating the conditions for the full implementation of the first phase of the US President's peace plan and moving to the second phase.
