CAIRO – 25 June 2026: The Egyptian Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Local Development officially installed the first three Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) in the New Administrative Capital’s Governmental District.
This comes as a strategic effort to bolster Egypt's circular economy, while encouraging citizens and government employees to actively participate in waste collection and recycling. The man can insert the used plastic or metal bottle in the machine and get a voucher in return to for other purchases.
Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, highlighted that the launch of these machines marks a significant step toward embedding circular economy principles into daily life. By providing an innovative, user-friendly mechanism for disposing of used containers, the ministry aims to streamline recycling efforts, reduce plastic pollution, and promote the conservation of natural resources.
