CAIRO – 24 June 2026: Egypt's Cabinet approved on Wednesday a draft decree extending remote work on Sundays throughout July, a measure introduced earlier this year amid disruptions to energy supplies to reduce power consumption.
The measure comes amid significant pressure on global energy supplies linked to the escalation in the Middle East, disrupting markets and driving up energy prices worldwide.
The decision extends the provisions of Prime Ministerial Decree No. 982 of 2026, which mandates one day of remote work per week.
It applies to employees in both the public and private sectors covered by the decision, with exceptions for roles that require in-person attendance.
Egypt introduced the measure in late March as part of a broader package of steps aimed at reducing energy consumption, including cuts to street and road lighting.
