CAIRO - 23 June 2026: The Saudi Cabinet, in its session Tuesday in Jeddah, chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, approved the initiative to design and build the first joint Saudi-Egyptian satellite, according to a statement issued by the Saudi Cabinet.
The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) and the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) are actively collaborating on peaceful space exploration and satellite technologies.
Their partnership focuses on manufacturing, operating, imaging, and marketing, with high priority placed on remote sensing and Earth observation satellites
The two agencies formalized their cooperative efforts through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in December 2023 aiming to promote peaceful space endeavors and share critical technical know-how.
Egypt has also expanded its sovereign capabilities, successfully launching satellites like MisrSat 2 and the SPNEX (a scientific laboratory measuring ionosphere plasma).
