CAIRO - 23 June 2026: Egypt and Jordan must build on the recent progress in US-Iran negotiations to systematically lower regional tensions, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty urged in a Monday bilateral meeting.

Abdelatty met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on the sidelines of the 165th resumed ordinary session of the Arab League Ministerial Council and the Arab Foreign Ministers' consultative meeting in Amman.

Abdelatty lauded the deep historical and fraternal ties binding Cairo and Amman, praising the regular convening of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee while calling for enhanced economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Turning to regional diplomacy, the two ministers analyzed the trajectory of the ongoing US-Iran negotiations following their recent memorandum of understanding.

Abdelatty emphasized the critical importance of capitalizing on this diplomatic breakthrough to reinforce Middle East security and stabilize volatile flashpoints.

On the Palestinian cause, the two diplomats demanded the comprehensive implementation of all first-phase requirements under the US peace plan. They underscored the urgent necessity of guaranteeing the unhindered flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid into the Gaza Strip to alleviate the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian population.

Further, both ministers strongly condemned continuous Israeli violations and settlement escalations in the occupied West Bank.

Abdelatty and Safadi pledged to maintain daily, high-level diplomatic coordination to strengthen bilateral mechanisms and unify their state positions on critical regional and international issues.
