CAIRO – 22 June 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty received Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, on Sunday, June 21, as part of the ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and the United States on regional issues of mutual interest.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting underscored the depth of Egyptian-American relations and the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation across various sectors. He noted that this was reflected in the constructive meeting between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France. Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two countries.
The spokesperson said the talks reviewed the latest regional developments. Abdelatty welcomed the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that it would mark the beginning of a new phase of de-escalation and reduced tensions in the region, thereby enhancing regional security and stability.
The discussions also covered the situation in Sudan. Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts to support security and stability in the country and preserve its unity, sovereignty, and national institutions. He stressed the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce that could pave the way for a sustainable ceasefire and support a comprehensive political process led and owned by the Sudanese people. He also called for intensified international efforts to ease the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese population.
On Libya, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for the country's unity and stability. He emphasized the need to unify Libya's national institutions and achieve a comprehensive political settlement through an Inter-Libyan process culminating in simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity.
The meeting further addressed developments in the Horn of Africa. Abdelatty stressed the importance of preserving security and stability in the region, describing it as a direct extension of Egypt's national security. He underscored the need to support state institutions, safeguard the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of countries in the region, and reject any actions that undermine state sovereignty or threaten regional stability.
Regarding water security, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of cooperation among Nile Basin countries in accordance with international law to achieve mutual interests. He reiterated Egypt's rejection of unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile Basin that violate international law, stressing that the Nile's waters constitute an existential issue for Egypt.
