FM discusses US-Iran negotiation developments with Steve Wittkop

CAIRO - 22 June 2026: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Dr. Badr Abdelatty received a phone call Monday from Steve Wittkop, the US Special Envoy for the Middle East, while the envoy was in Brügenstock, Switzerland, participating in the US-Iran negotiations.
 
What did the discussions between the two sides cover?
 
The US envoy briefed Minister Abdelatty on the developments in the US-Iran negotiations within the framework of cooperation and coordination between the two sides.
 
The Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt's support for the negotiation process following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the Memorandum would serve as a starting point for strengthening regional security and stability, and opening the way for addressing various issues through dialogue and diplomatic means.
 
For his part, the US envoy expressed appreciation for the role Egypt is playing, in coordination with regional partners, in supporting the negotiation process and bridging the gaps between the parties.
 
At the end of the call, it was emphasized that cooperation and coordination between the two sides would continue in order to support security and stability in the region.
