CAIRO - 22 June 2026: Residents of the Gaza Strip took to the streets to watch the Egyptian national team's second match against New Zealand in the second round of the group stage of the World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 
 
Videos circulated on social media showing Gazan fans watching the match, cheering for the Egyptian national team.
 
Despite the ongoing war and forced displacement they are enduring at the hands of the Israeli occupation, Gazans as they raise the Egyptian flag and celebrate the Egyptian team's outstanding performance against their opponents.  
 
The Egyptian national team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, achieved a historic win, their first ever in the World Cup, after a thrilling 3-1 win over New Zealand. The match was held at PC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, as part of the second round of group stage matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
 
The Egyptian national team topped Group G in the 2026 World Cup with 4 points, following a historic 3-1 victory over New Zealand.
 
This win came after their draw against Belgium in the first round, and also benefited from the goalless draw between Belgium and Iran.
