CAIRO – 20 June 2026: The Ministry of Health said on Saturday that more than 22.15 million people have been screened under a presidential initiative for the early detection and treatment of chronic diseases and kidney disease since its launch in September 2021.
Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the initiative has examined 22,154,398 citizens nationwide through 3,601 primary healthcare units across the country.
The program targets citizens aged 40 and above, as well as individuals aged 18 and over who have risk factors or a medical history linked to chronic diseases, with the aim of promoting early diagnosis and providing free, integrated healthcare services.
Screenings include blood pressure checks, random and cumulative blood sugar tests, cholesterol assessments, kidney function tests and body mass index measurements.
The initiative also provides health awareness sessions and regular follow-up programs.
Patients diagnosed with chronic conditions receive free monthly medication, while cases requiring specialized treatment are referred to hospitals at the state's expense.
The spokesman said the initiative follows the latest scientific guidelines developed in cooperation with the World Health Organization and includes ongoing training for medical staff to ensure accurate screening and prompt referrals.
He urged citizens, particularly those with hypertension, diabetes or a family history of chronic diseases, to visit the nearest primary healthcare unit and benefit from the free services.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that early detection remains the most effective way to prevent serious complications.
