CAIRO – 20 June 2026: The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is preparing to launch the 9th Cairo Water Week, set to take place from October 25 to 29 under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This year's theme is "Water as a Catalyst for Peace, Shared Prosperity, and a Sustainable Planet."
The conference will draw high-level participation from ministers and officials worldwide, alongside international experts and representatives from regional and global organizations working on water and climate issues. The event aims to develop flexible strategies for tackling water scarcity and the accelerating impacts of climate change, while strengthening water diplomacy as a key tool for preventing conflict and advancing regional integration.
This year's discussions will center on four main themes: managing shared water resources under international law; securing agricultural and food systems by expanding desalination and renewable-energy-powered wastewater treatment; integrating artificial intelligence and digital tools for more efficient water resource management; and strengthening national governance alongside innovative financing tools for water projects.
Running alongside Cairo Water Week is the 7th Arab Water Conference, held October 26–27, which focuses on building Arab partnerships for sustainable development and managing flood and drought risks. The event will also include an exhibition where companies and investors can showcase the latest technologies and environmental solutions in water and sanitation.
Over the past several editions, Cairo Water Week has established itself as a major international platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise. Through this year's outcomes, the Egyptian government aims to develop practical recommendations to support national and regional water policies and encourage investment in water infrastructure- safeguarding future generations' right to a safe, sustainable life.
