How Egypt enhances position as regional hub for higher education, scientific research

CAIRO - 17 June 2026: During the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research intensified its efforts to advance international cooperation by supporting the internationalization of higher education.
 
The ministry also took steps to expand strategic partnerships with a sustainable impact linked to national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
 
This aligns with the state's vision to build a knowledge-based economy and enhance the competitiveness of the higher education and scientific research system.
 
In this context, the 2025/2026 fiscal year witnessed numerous achievements in international cooperation.
 
These included expanding academic and research partnerships with prestigious international institutions, attracting global educational models, and strengthening collaboration with various international partners.
 
This contributes to supporting the competitiveness of Egyptian higher education institutions, expanding opportunities for academic and research collaboration, and maximizing the benefits of international expertise in the fields of education and innovation.
 
Achievements
 
This year witnessed a significant event: the inauguration of the new permanent campus of Senghor University in New Borg El Arab City.  
 
The Ministry also continued to support cooperation with African countries through its participation in the "Africa Day" celebration at Cairo University and its involvement in the meetings of the joint committee between Egypt and the Comoros.
 
As part of its efforts to bolster Egypt's role within the Francophone community, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research received the envoy of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who is also a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the International Organization of the Francophonie, as well as the Romanian envoy, who is also a candidate for the Secretary-General position.
 
Furthermore, Egyptian-French cooperation included monitoring the progress of the new campus project for the French University in Egypt in El Shorouk City.
 
Regarding cooperation with the United Kingdom, the Ministry continued to support the expansion of transnational education by following up on the project to establish a branch of the University of East London, the new expansions of the University of Hertfordshire, and strengthening cooperation with Bournemouth, Oxford Brookes, and Exeter Universities, which supports the development of joint academic programs in future-oriented disciplines.
 
The Ministry also continued to develop modern, world-class educational models, strengthening cooperation with IE University in Spain and enhancing collaboration with the University of Bonn in Germany and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), opening new horizons for supporting Egyptian researchers and long-term research collaborations.
 
Within the framework of the Egyptian-Japanese partnership, the Ministry continued to support the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology as a leading model for international cooperation in advanced technology fields.  
 
Egyptian-Russian relations also witnessed a new impetus through enhanced cooperation with Russian academic and scientific institutions, as well as with partner countries in the Arab and African world.
 
For her part, Dr. Salma Yousry, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, explained that following Egypt's official accession to the European Union's Horizon Europe program, the Ministry launched a new phase aimed at maximizing the national return from international research partnerships.
