CAIRO - 16 June 2026: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Tuesday in Evian, France, with António Costa, President of the European Council, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
 
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the President affirmed his appreciation for the growing trajectory of Egyptian-European relations, particularly following the elevation of these relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership and the convening of the first Egypt-EU Summit in October 2025.
 
In this context, he emphasized the importance of continuing to work towards strengthening these relations in various fields, especially: economic, trade, and investment sectors, as well as enhancing political consultation and coordination between the two sides to bolster regional peace and stability.
 
The spokesperson added that the President of the European Council, in turn, commended the existing strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, praising the development of relations between the two sides and affirming the European side's commitment to further strengthening this partnership in various fields, in a way that serves the interests of both parties.
 
The official spokesperson added that the meeting also addressed the latest regional developments. The President affirmed Egypt's welcome of the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, noting Egypt's hope that this agreement would contribute to de-escalating tensions in the region.
 
He emphasized Egypt's commitment to continuing to work with the European side to find comprehensive and sustainable solutions to the various crises facing the region, particularly given the convergence of views between the two sides on many issues.
 
In the same context, the President stressed the necessity of adhering to the provisions of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip, maintaining the ceasefire in the Strip, facilitating the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and expediting the early recovery and reconstruction process.
 
The spokesperson stated that the President of the European Council, in turn, emphasized the crucial importance of close coordination between Egypt and the European Union aimed at achieving regional and international peace and resolving various regional crises.
 
He affirmed his appreciation for Egypt's role in establishing stability in the region and for the efforts Egypt has made to support the negotiating track between the United States and Iran.
 
The President of the European Council also praised the close cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the areas of combating terrorism and illegal immigration, stressing the centrality of this cooperation to achieving peace and prosperity on both sides of the Mediterranean.
