CAIRO - 16 June 2026: Egypt strongly condemned on Tuesday the opening by Somaliland a region in northwestern Somalia of a purported diplomatic mission in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) describing the move as a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions, as well as a direct affront to the legal and historical status of the occupied city.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Egypt reiterated its unequivocal rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at imposing an illegal fait accompli in Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) or conferring legitimacy on entities and arrangements that run counter to international law and established international legitimacy.
The statement reaffirmed that East Jerusalem remains an occupied Palestinian territory under international law since 1967, stressing that all measures intended to alter the city's legal, historical or demographic character are null and void and devoid of any legal effect.
Egypt further reiterated its steadfast support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while rejecting any unilateral actions that undermine Somalia's national unity or infringe upon its sovereignty.
