CAIRO - 16 June 2026: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi voiced appreciation for the growing trajectory of Egyptian–European relations especially following their upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership and the holding of the first Egypt–European Summit in October 2025.
The president stressed the importance of continued efforts to strengthen these relations across various fields, especially economic, trade, and investment sectors, as well as enhancing political consultations and coordination between both sides to promote regional peace and stability.
During President Sisi’s meeting on Tuesday, with António Costa, President of the European Council, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in the French city of Evian, the President of the European Council praised strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union (EU) and commended the development of relations between the two sides, affirming the EU’s keenness on further strengthening this partnership in the various fields to serve mutual interests, Presidential Spokesman Mohmed el-Shennway said.
He added that the meeting also addressed recent regional developments, where the President welcomed the agreement reached between the US and Iran, voicing hope that it would help reduce escalation witnessed in the region over the past period.
The president further reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continued cooperation with the European side to achieve comprehensive and sustainable solutions to regional crises, especially given the convergence of views on many issues.
In this context, President Sisi stressed the importance of implementing the provisions of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, maintaining calm in the territory, ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and accelerating early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the enclave.
The spokesperson noted that the president of the European Council also emphasized the importance of close coordination between Egypt and the EU to achieve regional and international peace and resolve various regional crises, praising Egypt’s role in promoting stability in the region and its efforts in supporting the negotiation process between the United States and Iran.
He also commended the close cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in combating terrorism and illegal migration, affirming its importance in achieving peace and prosperity on both shores of the Mediterranean.
