FM proposes Egypt-Luxembourg economic committee, business council

CAIRO - 15 June 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told his  Luxembourg counterpart Xavier Bettel that Cairo looks forward to expanding economic cooperation, proposing the creation of a joint economic committee and a joint business council to drive trade.

Meeting on the sidelines of the Egypt-EU Partnership Council in Luxembourg on Monday, Abdelatty welcomed the strong momentum generated by high-level reciprocal visits throughout 2025.

He highlighted Egypt's recent structural reforms aimed at empowering the private sector, identifying infrastructure, clean energy, transport, and banking services as high-priority areas for shared Luxembourgish investment.

For his part, Bettel reiterated Luxembourg's commitment to upgrading bilateral ties and maintaining close consultations on regional crises, praising Egypt's pivotal role as an anchor of stability in the Middle East.

Egypt's top diplomat also pressed for the immediate execution of the first phase of the Gaza peace plan and a swift transition to its second stage during a Monday meeting with his .

Abdelatty stressed the necessity for the National Committee for Gaza Management to begin its operations from within the Strip.

He also urged the rapid deployment of an international stability force to restore security and secure humanitarian aid corridors.

During the talks, Abdelatty welcomed the newly brokered agreement between the United States and Iran. He briefed Bettel on Egypt's extensive regional diplomacy aimed at resolving conflicts through dialogue, highlighting Cairo's stance on the latest developments in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa.
