Egypt welcomes US Iran deal during talks with EU Mediterranean commissioner

CAIRO - 15 June 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty outlined proposed joint projects aimed at boosting integration among Mediterranean countries during a Monday meeting with EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica. 

The series of projects seek to counter shared socioeconomic and cultural challenges, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. 

The bilateral talks focused on accelerating the Egypt-EU Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, alongside reviewing Cairo's strategic vision for the Pact for the Mediterranean action plan.

Suica lauded Egypt's pivotal role in maintaining regional security and stability throughout the Middle East.

Abdelatty highlighted the continuous development of Cairo-Brussels ties following the landmark Egypt-EU summit in 2025.

He stressed the importance of building on those positive results to drive deeper economic, investment, and trade cooperation across various sectors.

On migration management, the foreign minister emphasized expanding regular migration pathways and facilitating legal labor mobility.

He called for scaling up joint vocational training and capacity-building programs to meet the mutual economic interests of both sides.

Abdelatty also Suica reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to reinforcing its strategic partnership with Egypt, describing the country as a vital pillar of stability and a key partner in the South Mediterranean region.
