CAIRO - 15 June 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's successful mediation in supporting negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which culminated in an agreement reached Monday.
During the 11th session of the Egypt-EU Partnership Council, the high-level meeting, co-chaired by Abdelatty, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, and EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, focused heavily on regional security.
European foreign ministers widely praised Cairo's constructive role in brokering diplomacy and maintaining Middle East stability, Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said.
Addressing the Palestinian file, Abdelatty underscored the urgency of implementing the first phase of the Trump peace plan. He pressed for full, sustainable humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip and the deployment of an international stability force to monitor the ceasefire.
Abdelatty also called for enabling the National Committee for Gaza Management to operate within the Strip until the Palestinian Authority fully resumes its responsibilities.
He warned against escalating Israeli settlement activity and land confiscations in the West Bank.
The council meeting marks the first such gathering since the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership was launched in March 2024.
Abdelatty noted that the framework allows both sides to evaluate their six-pillar partnership while navigating current geopolitical challenges.
On economic cooperation, Abdelatty pointed to expanding European investments in energy and green hydrogen, boosted by the 2025 investment conferences in Cairo and Brussels.
He highlighted that Egypt’s structural reforms, infrastructure, and strategic location offer strong supply chain opportunities for joint manufacturing.
The minister also highlighted growing defense ties, citing the launch of the Egypt-EU security and defense dialogue in March 2026.
He welcomed the 2025 Pact for the Mediterranean as a vital step toward long-term regional growth, integration, and shared responsibility.
