Egyptian and Greek FMs in a phone call - file
CAIRO - 11 June 2026: A telephone call took place Thursday, between Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, and Giorgos Gerapetritis, Greek Foreign Minister, as part of their regular communication to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on the latest regional developments.
The two ministers commended the depth of bilateral relations between Egypt and Greece and welcomed the progress witnessed in these relations, particularly after their elevation to the level of a strategic partnership.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of continuing to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries and expanding the frameworks of bilateral cooperation.
He also expressed his appreciation for Greece's support for Egypt within the various institutions of the European Union.
The call also addressed the latest regional developments and the rapid changes taking place in the region. The Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt's intensive contacts and efforts aimed at de-escalation and reducing tensions, affirming Egypt's support for the US-Iranian negotiation track.
For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's tireless efforts to achieve de-escalation and reducing tensions.
Discussions on the Situations in Palestine and Libya
The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the requirements of the first phase of the American plan and commencing the second phase.
He highlighted the importance of the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip assuming its responsibilities from within the Strip and the swift deployment of the international stabilization force.
The call also addressed the situation in Libya. Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's firm position calling for the preservation of the unity and stability of the Libyan state, the unification of Libyan institutions, and the necessity of reaching a comprehensive Libyan-Libyan solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people and preserves their sovereignty.
He stressed the importance of continuing efforts to advance the political process in Libya, leading to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
The two ministers agreed on the necessity of continuing coordination and consultation within the framework of the strategic relations between the two countries and supporting efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
