CAIRO – 10 June 2026: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the United States would target key facilities in Iran within the next few hours, describing the anticipated strikes as "powerful and decisive."
Hegseth added that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) would be "busy tonight," emphasizing that the U.S. military would strike Iran "forcefully."
U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iran continues to delay negotiations, adding that Washington is closely monitoring developments and warning that Iran would be hit “hard again today.”
He indicated that the United States believes Tehran has taken too long to reach a final agreement. Trump also said Iran “should sign the deal” and that Washington wants an agreement “that’s meaningful and works.”
Trump emphasized that the United States does not want an agreement similar to the one reached during the administration of former President Barack Obama, stating that his administration is seeking a different deal that meets U.S. objectives regarding Iran.
In remarks published on Wednesday, Trump said Iran had “taken too long to negotiate” and would “have to pay the price,” signaling a tougher stance amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The U.S. president warned that further strikes could be carried out if Iran continues to resist reaching an agreement.
Trump added that the two sides remain close to a deal while accusing Iran of continuing to delay and obstruct the negotiation process.
His comments come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, alongside ongoing diplomatic efforts and military developments across the region.
