El-Sisi affirms Egypt’s readiness to support DR Congo amid crisis in the east

CAIRO – 10 June 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of DR Congo, while pledging continued backing for efforts to restore peace and stability in the country’s eastern region.

Speaking during talks with DRC President Felix Tshisekedi in Cairo, El-Sisi expressed solidarity with the DRC in addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the east of the country.

He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide medical assistance, food aid, and other humanitarian support.

Egypt remains committed to supporting international and regional efforts aimed at achieving peace in eastern Congo, including through the full implementation of the Washington and Doha agreements, El-Sisi said.

He reiterated Cairo’s longstanding position in support of the Congolese people’s sovereignty over their territory.

Tshisekedi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s constructive role in this regard.

The Egyptian leader also stressed continued backing of efforts to advance peace, restore security and stability, and support mediation initiatives carried out by African and international mediators.

He highlighted the need for parties concerned to engage seriously in peaceful settlement efforts in a spirit of responsibility and good faith.

Moreover, El-Sisi renewed Egypt’s readiness to support confidence-building measures, peacebuilding initiatives, as well as post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts through Egyptian companies.

He cited Egypt’s extensive experience in these fields and its leading role within the African Union on post-conflict reconstruction and development.

El-Sisi emphasized that African-led mediation efforts remain essential to securing lasting peace and stability in the region.

He also expressed Egypt’s willingness to provide technical assistance through capacity-building programs, institutional development initiatives, and training activities.

The Egyptian Presidency said the two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and DR Congo.

El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuing efforts to boost trade exchange and investment between the two countries.

He underscored the importance of convening their joint committee and establishing implementation programs and follow-up mechanisms to monitor progress in bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

El-Sisi highlighted the extensive expertise of Egyptian companies, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and expressed Egypt’s readiness to support DR Congo across various fields.
