CAIRO – 9 June 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, held a series of telephone conversations with Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairperson of the African Union Commission; Edward Bizimana, Foreign Minister of Burundi; Tete António, Foreign Minister of Angola; Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Foreign Minister of Tanzania; and Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The calls were part of ongoing consultations and coordination with fellow African leaders regarding the priorities of joint African action.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on Tuesday that the discussions focused on ways to enhance African coordination in order to establish the foundations of peace, security, and stability across the continent and advance sustainable development efforts.
The officials also exchanged views on various regional and continental issues of mutual interest, in addition to discussing the latest developments related to the health situation in Africa and ways to strengthen the collective response to health challenges.
Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s continued readiness to share its capabilities, expertise, and technical support in this field, reflecting the country’s commitment to supporting fellow African nations and strengthening health security across the continent.
The spokesperson added that the discussions also addressed the proposed new dates and preparations for the 8th African Union Coordination Summit, scheduled for mid-year, and the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, as well as related African Union events set to be hosted by Egypt this year.
These events are expected to contribute to strengthening coordination between African countries and the African Union Commission and advancing efforts toward continental economic integration.
