Iran launches retaliatory attack on Israel with hundreds of drones, missiles

CAIRO - 8 June 2026: Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced, Monday, the cessation of its military operations against Israel. However, the headquarters emphasized that should aggressions continue—particularly in southern Lebanon—the Iranian response would be far more powerful.

This development follows a recent statement by US President Donald Trump, who called on both Iran and Israel to halt fighting immediately.

On the ground, major disruptions hit Iranian aviation. Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that all flights at Shiraz International Airport in southern Iran have been canceled until 8:00 PM local time.

Concurrently, the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization announced the closure of both Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini international airports in the capital, Tehran, due to Israeli airstrikes targeting the facilities. This aligns with reports from the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, which confirmed that the Israeli Air Force is continuing strikes deep inside Iranian territory, including operations in Shiraz.

In central Iran, air defense systems were activated in the city of Yazd to intercept hostile targets. Meanwhile, the head of Tehran’s Emergency Services stated that teams are currently assessing the impact of two explosions in the capital, noting that no casualties have been recorded so far.

The Israeli military declared readiness for multiple days of combat, announcing the mobilization of additional reserve forces to reinforce border areas.

In response, a spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters struck a defiant tone, stating: "We will not bow to our enemies, and if the aggression continues, we will deal with it with greater force." The spokesperson claimed that Iranian forces had successfully targeted vital and sensitive sites within the occupied territories, inflicting heavy losses on the adversary.

The military confrontation between Iran and Israel reignited late yesterday following an Israeli military strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh). Iran retaliated by launching seven missiles toward northern Israel.

Israel subsequently struck back, hitting approximately 20 sites deep inside Iran, which prompted the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to declare the launch of "Operation Victory" against Israel before today's cessation announcement.
