CAIRO – 8 June 2026: Egypt stressed on Monday the critical importance of reaching a swift US-Iran agreement that addresses the concerns of all involved parties, particularly the countries of the region.

Such an agreement is essential to avert the dangers of escalation, instability, and terrorism in the region, especially in light of the serious security, economic, and geopolitical repercussions witnessed regionally and globally in recent months, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Egypt reiterated the importance of reaching the agreement as soon as possible to restore security and stability in the region and address all outstanding issues, including the Iranian nuclear program and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This would contribute to ending the conflict and restoring calm throughout the region.

Egypt emphasized the need for all parties to respect the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter, particularly respect for states sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, the prohibition of the use of force in settling disputes, and a commitment to political and diplomatic solutions.

Egypt also asserted the significance of avoiding escalation and fostering an environment conducive to reaching consensus-based understandings that could pave the way for resolving the region’s remaining crises, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, which remains at the core of the regional conflict.

The statement called for renewed focus on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and for efforts to complete the implementation of the requirements of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, then immediately beginning the implementation of the second phase.
