WASHINGTON – 6 June 2026: The US Department of Defense has raised its counterintelligence threat assessment for Israel to its highest level in recent weeks, according to a report by NBC, citing current and former US officials.

The update comes amid allegedly growing tensions between Washington and Tel Aviv over the wars in Iran and Lebanon over alleged Israeli spying on US officials engaged in sensitive regional policy talks, including the war in Iran.

The report said the Pentagon elevated Israel’s designation to “critical” in an internal Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) communication, reflecting heightened concern over potential intelligence activities targeting senior US officials.
