CAIRO – 6 June 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday reviewed a proposal to establish an integrated medical city, which would include hospitals and educational institutes in the New Capital.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Presidential Adviser for Financial Affairs Ahmed El-Shazly.
According to the Presidency, the proposed project aims to create an integrated medical city comprising hospitals and research and training centers to enhance healthcare services, provide high-quality medical care for citizens, and support medical tourism.
Abdel Ghaffar said the project is intended to become a leading regional hub for advanced healthcare services, medical research, education, and training.
He noted that several international companies have submitted proposals to implement the project, adding that all offers are being evaluated in line with Egypt’s healthcare objectives.
Updates of Key Projects
The minister also reviewed progress on the Nile National Center for Excellence in Medical Education project, which is being developed as Egypt’s first center dedicated to medical simulation, excellence, and learning.
The meeting also addressed investment opportunities in the healthcare sector and mechanisms to support local manufacturing.
El-Sisi stressed the importance of creating an attractive environment for high-value healthcare investments as part of a strategic vision aimed at localizing medical industries, expanding specialized healthcare services, and strengthening self-sufficiency.
The president underscored the need to continue improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services nationwide through the development of modern medical facilities equipped with advanced technologies and medical equipment.
El-Sisi also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among government entities, the private sector, and strategic partners in implementing national projects and advancing the state's healthcare development goals.
During the meeting, the president reviewed the implementation status and timelines of several healthcare projects across the country, including the construction and development of hospitals in New Alamein and Ras El-Hekma, as well as the Nile Children's Hospital, Qalawoon Eye Hospital, Nile Medical City, and the Central Laboratories in Badr.
Ongoing projects in Upper Egypt's northern, central, and southern regions were also discussed.
Improving Ambulance Organization Wages
The meeting further reviewed developments related to the Egyptian Ambulance Organization with El-Sisi approving a proposal to improve employee wages at the authority.
Meanwhile Abdel Ghaffar presented an update on the country’s ambulance fleet.
The president also called for accelerating the digitization of the Universal Health Insurance System.
He urged the implementation of a fully integrated national digital healthcare system that ensures the integration and interoperability of health information and data management, thereby enhancing operational and spending efficiency.
In addition, El-Sisi stressed the importance of supporting the adoption of artificial intelligence applications across healthcare facilities.
