CAIRO – 4 June 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday with members of Japan’s House of Representatives and House of Councillors, as well as members of the Egypt-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association, during his visit to Tokyo.

Minister Abdelatty praised the rapid development of Egyptian-Japanese relations since their elevation to a strategic partnership in 2023 and the subsequent increase in high-level visits and exchanges between the two countries, which has contributed to strengthening cooperation across a wide range of fields.

During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the importance Egypt attaches to parliamentary cooperation and commended the role of the Egypt-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association in enhancing communication, exchanging expertise, and supporting bilateral cooperation.

The foreign minister also expressed hope for the resumption of reciprocal parliamentary visits in the coming period. He extended an invitation to the chairman and members of the association to visit Egypt, meet with leaders of the Egyptian Parliament, and tour the new headquarters of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the New Administrative Capital.

Abdelatty also highlighted Japan’s support for major development projects in Egypt, most notably the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptian-Japanese partnership in education at all levels, and the Cairo Metro Line 4 project. He stressed that these initiatives represent successful models of bilateral cooperation and make a direct contribution to Egypt’s economic and social development efforts.

In this context, he underscored the importance of continuing to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, particularly education, technology, and industrial localization.

The minister reviewed key developments in the Egyptian economy resulting from the economic and structural reforms implemented by the state. He highlighted the enhanced competitiveness of the national economy and the growing attractiveness of the Egyptian market to foreign investors.

Abdelatty expressed hope that members of the association would play a supportive role in encouraging Japanese companies to capitalize on the promising investment opportunities available in Egypt across various sectors, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and other economic zones that offer incentives and competitive advantages to investors. Such efforts would help elevate economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional developments in the Middle East, including the situations in the Gaza Strip, Iran, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon, as well as issues related to Egypt’s water security.

Kuniko Inoguchi, a prominent member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and a member of the Japan-Egypt Parliamentary Association, delivered remarks on behalf of former Japanese Prime Minister and current chairman of the Japan-Egypt Parliamentary Association, Taro Aso.

In her remarks, she expressed the association’s appreciation for the longstanding historical ties between Egypt and Japan and praised the progress achieved under the strategic partnership between the two countries across various fields. She affirmed the association’s commitment to continuing its support for efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, thereby advancing Egyptian-Japanese relations and promoting the shared interests of the two friendly nations.
