CAIRO – 4 June 2026: In a gesture aimed at restoring hope and happiness to Palestinian child Ayoub, who was left devastated after his glasses were broken, the Egyptian Relief Committee in the Gaza Strip helped provide him with a new pair following an eye examination.

A video that recently went viral on social media showed Ayoub, who lives in a tent in the besieged Gaza Strip, crying inconsolably after his glasses were broken. Due to his severe visual impairment, he struggles to see without them.

During a phone interview with the TV program "Extra Today" on Egypt's Extra News channel, Ayoub’s father, Mohamed Geneid, said his son suffers greatly from poor eyesight. Despite his condition, Ayoub had attempted to leave the tent to obtain food. While returning from a food distribution point, he tripped and fell on his face, causing his glasses to break. The lenses shattered completely the following day, and no suitable replacements were available.

Geneid explained that the family had closely monitored Ayoub’s condition and regularly provided him with corrective lenses. However, when his prescription reached 29, they were unable to obtain lenses of that strength. As a result, Ayoub had been using prescription-26 glasses for nearly three years without an update to his vision correction.

His father added that Ayoub is in need of eye surgery and expressed his and his son’s gratitude, to the Egyptian Relief Committee for its support in securing a new pair of glasses.
