Egyptian FM Badr Abdelatty during a media interview with Japan's NHK channel
CAIRO - 4 June 2026: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad Dr. Badr Abdelatty, affirmed the depth and development of Egyptian-Japanese relations across various fields during a media interview with Japan's NHK channel.
He noted Egypt's keenness to strengthen its strategic partnership with Japan in a way that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
The Minister reviewed the economic reform program being implemented by the Egyptian government, including measures aimed at improving the investment climate and increasing the attractiveness of the Egyptian market to foreign direct investment, within the framework of the state's plans to support economic growth and enhance competitiveness.
Developments in Gaza and Iran
Abdelatty discussed the details of his current visit to Japan and his meetings with senior Japanese officials, including the Prime Minister, emphasizing the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation, as well as activating trilateral cooperation mechanisms between Egypt and Japan in Africa.
The meeting also addressed the latest regional developments, particularly those in Gaza and Iran. The Foreign Minister emphasized Egypt's ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability in the Middle East, stressing the importance of containing these tensions given their serious economic and security repercussions for the region and the world.
On the international level, Abdelatty stressed the need to reform the United Nations system, especially the Security Council, and to improve the governance of the global financial system to enhance fairness and effectiveness in addressing current international challenges.
