CAIRO – 1 June 2026: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, met on Monday with Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting.
The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and coordinate positions on African issues.
Minister Abdelatty congratulated his Kenyan counterpart on the successful organization of the Africa-France Summit and expressed hope that its outcomes would advance the interests of the African continent.
He also expressed his desire to build on the outcomes of the meeting between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Kenyan President William Ruto to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand frameworks for cooperation across various sectors.
Abdelatty emphasized the importance of boosting Egyptian and Kenyan investments in infrastructure, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, construction, and information technology, as well as increasing trade volume between the two countries.
He stressed the need to provide Egyptian companies with greater opportunities to capitalize on investment prospects in the Kenyan market, given their extensive expertise, which could support Kenya’s comprehensive development efforts. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in water resource management.
The foreign minister expressed hope that Kenya would benefit from the financing mechanism launched by Egypt for projects in the Southern Nile Basin countries. He also discussed prospects for cooperation in maritime transport, the blue economy, and the development of natural and mineral resources within exclusive economic zones.
Regarding water security, Abdelatty underscored the importance of cooperation among Nile Basin countries to achieve shared benefits and mutual interests.
He highlighted the need to uphold the spirit of consensus and fraternity to restore inclusivity to the Nile Basin Initiative, further reiterating Egypt’s rejection of unilateral actions. He also welcomed the positive developments in the initiative’s consultative process aimed at restoring inclusivity in accordance with international law, thereby promoting mutual benefit for all Nile Basin countries.
