CAIRO - 25 May 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and regional de-escalation efforts with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos in a Monday phone call.
The two ministers praised the deep historical ties between both nations, which were elevated to a strategic partnership during the Egyptian president's visit to Cyprus.
Abdelatty expressed his anticipation for continued coordination across all levels, highlighting Nicosia's current presidency of the Council of the European Union and praising its ongoing support for Egypt within EU institutions.
During the call, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of boosting economic and trade cooperation, urging the swift implementation of the memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus.
He also stressed the significance of utilizing infrastructure to transport gas and energy from Egypt to Europe, underscoring the linkage of Cypriot gas fields to Egypt's infrastructure.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and ways to defuse tensions, focusing on the latest updates in the US-Iran negotiation track.
Abdelatty briefed Kombos on Egypt's ongoing coordination with regional partners to prevent the region from sliding into further instability, while Kombos expressed Cyprus's appreciation for Cairo's stabilizing role.
