Egypt’s FM, EU’s Kallas discuss US-Iran talks

CAIRO - 25 May 2026: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a Sunday phone call with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to address rapid regional developments.

In a statement issued by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the two diplomats exchanged views on the current trajectory of U.S.-Iran negotiations and the broader challenges facing the Middle East.

Abdelatty briefed Kallas on Egypt’s relentless diplomatic efforts to broker de-escalation in coordination with regional partners.

During the discussions, Abdelatty stressed the vital importance of adhering to diplomatic paths and prioritizing dialogue to safeguard regional stability, protect local populations, and guarantee the freedom of international navigation.

Kallas praised Egypt's pivotal role in supporting regional stabilization efforts, expressing the European Union's desire to maintain close consultation and coordination with Cairo across the coming period.
