CAIRO – 20 May 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, discussed regional developments during phone calls on Wednesday with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia.
The calls addressed ongoing coordination regarding the rapidly evolving situation in the region, as well as joint efforts to contain current tensions and de-escalate the situation.
During the discussions, Abdelatty expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s stance in giving dialogue and diplomacy an opportunity to resolve differences and spare the region the risks of sliding into broader confrontation.
The foreign minister emphasized the importance of continuing US-Iranian negotiations until a balanced agreement is reached that serves the interests of all parties.
He stressed that any agreement must take into account the security concerns of countries in the region, particularly the security and stability of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, describing them as a fundamental pillar of Egyptian and Arab national security.
Abdelatty also reiterated the importance of fully relying on diplomacy to resolve disputes in a manner that preserves the resources and stability of the region’s peoples.
